Wang was initially hired as an assistant, but shot up the ranks and became the magazine’s youngest ever fashion editor. It was there she met and impressed the Vogue fashion director, Frances Patiky Stein, who two years later upon Vera’s graduation, arranged for her to interview at Vogue.
Wang attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York and during her summer break, worked at Yves Saint Laurent on Madison Avenue. However, after placing 5th in the US National Championships and failing to make the US Olympic team, Wang hung up her skating boots and pursued a career in her other great love.
